Ethan Frome, by Edith Wharton
Are you pining away for that married man who can’t leave his
wife just now because her health is so awful?
If you further justify your affair because she’s really unpleasant, not
to mention so shallow she values her pickle dish above all else, then this
classic novel’s for you! This one’s a
short read, set in the aptly named village of Starkfield, in late 1800s New
England. Amidst grim poverty and joyless
domesticity Ethan falls for a gorgeous, vibrant creature who really needs to be
getting on with her own life, and not getting trapped by the likes of him. If we want to value our gorgeousness, and not
get snared by the totally wrong man, this one’s a great read!
